| A | Up to £40,000 | 0.67 | £1,520 |
| B | £40,001 – £52,000 | 0.78 | £1,773 |
| C | £52,001 – £68,000 | 0.89 | £2,027 |
| D | £68,001 – £88,000 | 1.00 | £2,280 |
| E | £88,001 – £120,000 | 1.22 | £2,787 |
| F | £120,001 – £160,000 | 1.44 | £3,293 |
| G | £160,001 – £320,000 | 1.67 | £3,800 |
| H | Over £320,000 | 2.00 | £4,560 |
Bands use historic values, not today's prices. The default £2,280 is only an example — use your council's real figure. Single-person and other discounts aren't included.
Selling? Why your band matters
Buyers compare running costs, and the band appears on listings. If similar homes on your street are in a lower band, you can ask for a band review ↗ — but it can also go up, and it may affect neighbours. Never pay a firm to do this; it's free.
You usually pay council tax until completion day, then tell the council you've moved.

We don't show the band for an individual home: the official registers have no open data feed, so use the official checker linked. Band charges are estimated from the Band D figure you enter using statutory ratios; councils may add precepts and discounts apply. A band review can go down as well as up.
